The Holy Trinity: God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. The One God who makes Himself present and part of us in three ways.
The Father: He is the creator of all things seen and unseen. He is supreme above all things. He knows us, and loves us completely even before we were born.
The Son: The physical human presence of God. Jesus was fully man and fully God. In Jesus God exhibited a love so great that He divested himself of being God and became man. As a man He became for us the final sacrifice that would rescue us from sin and death. There is no greater love than the ultimate sacrifice of one’s life for the sake of another’s.
The Spirit: The Spirit is a divine gift to guide and direct us. He shows us truth and teaches us about God. The Spirit guides us to be more loving, patient and joyful. He gives us understanding, comfort and instruction for our days. Most of all He gives us energy and courage to do the things God has called us to do.
St. Paul said to the Romans, “Those who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. For you did not receive a spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you received a Spirit of adoption, through whom we cry, ‘Abba, Father!’ “ God’s great plan for us is to be what he created us to be which is Holy and sanctified. This is done gradually throughout our lives with the love and care and support of the Holy Trinity. It is our job, then, to take up the tasks that Jesus set before his original disciples and go, make, baptize and teach others who is God, who is Jesus and who is the Holy Spirit. Like the original disciples we are not sent out into the world alone, but have the love, help and support of the Holy Trinity to fulfill God’s plan through us.
We keep our relationship alive and growing through our prayers. It is the intimate time we spend with God that opens a connection through which great mercy and great deeds are accomplished in and through us. When you next pray the “Our Father” or say “Jesus, I trust in You” or appeal to the Holy Spirit to “Come Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful. Kindle in them the fire of your love” contemplate deeply the close, personal relationship you are cultivating.
The Psalm this week is Psalm 33: Blessed the People.
